The Bengali Literary Society of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata in association with St. Xavier's College (Kolkata) Alumni Association proudly presents SANYOG & XAVULLASH 2016. SANYOG is an international torch light peace tour to commemorate International Mother Language Day. The students of Bengali Literary Society of the college collaborated with the alumni for this noble cause.
The aim of the event is to rejuvenate Mother Language's lost glory and to spread it among Gen Y who is believing more in foreign languages rather than upholding the cultural heritage.
The torch light flame which signified world wide fraternity and cultural bond started its holy journey from University of Dhaka on 6th of February. It travelled to Jahangirnagar Umiversity on the same day. The next stop was St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Mumbai on 9th of February followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University on 10th of February.
The Tagore Society, Singapore in association with Singapore Bangladesh Society, BLCF and Hindi Foundation had arranged a grand program in RELC hall on 14th of February for SANYOG where students from St. Xavier's College Kolkata, Rev Fr. Dr. Dominic Savio, Rector, St Xavier's College, Kolkata, Shubhechha Chowdhuri , Secretary Of Bengali Literary Society with Alumni Secretary Mr. Firdausul Hasan, Mr. Subhra Sankha Bose & Mr. Arijit Dey; Alumni Conveners, Mr. Sanjib Koner, GC member were present.
The torch then further travelled to St. Xavier's Colleges of Rajgunj, Asansol & Burdwan on 16th, 17th& 18th of February and finally came to rest to Bangladesh Deputy High Commission on 19th February night.
On 20th February, a mass rally comprising of all the students of St Xavier's College along with professors and alumni contingent walked with the torch light from Bangladesh Deputy High Commission through Camac Street to the college front gate where Rev. Fr. Dr. John Felix Raj S.J. received the torch along with other dignitaries.
Thus ended SANYOG and the opening ceremony of XAVULLASH started on 20th& 21st Of February. It is the International Inter-college Fest where the students from all the destination points came down and participated. The inherent flavor of this fest is Ethnic celebrating the rich cultural heritage. The interaction between students from across the globe gave a new meaning to the term "Worldwide Fraternity and Friendship". The highlights of the fest were "TaraderAdda"- a celebrity discussion comprising of Smt. Sudeshna Roy; eminent director, Musician Sidhu, Mr. Arijit Dutta; owner of Priya Entertainment Ltd etc. Another flagship event was "Dashabhuja Bangalee"- 10 eminent Bengalis from 10 different fields were felicitated like Mr Chandrasekhar Ghosh (CMD, Bandhan Bank), Actor Jishu Sengupta, Musician Anindya Chatterjee, Director Shibaprasad Mukherjee, Mr. Santanu Basu IAS, Smt. Dr. Rupali Basu (CEO, Apollo Hospitals), Mr. Buddhadeb Guha, Cricketer Laxmi Ratan Shuklaeminent novelist etc graced the occasion.
To give the students a space to lighten the mood and dance to the jive of music, first day Eminent bands LOKKHICHARA & CHANDRABINDOO were present. The students enjoyed the BONG taste of the music.
Rupankar was there the last day to wrap up the hard work of the students all these long months. An event, the first one of its kind in the history of St Xavier's College, made its mark all over the globe.
As rightfully said by the student secretary of
BLS Shuhechha Chowdhuri, "Now is the time we think
of going back to our roots and present Bengal in a
new light to the global audience. We should never
forget the rich past of our Mother Language and try
our best to uphold it. If the cause started by us
reach across all the world by Multiplier Effect, our
hard work will pay off finally."
