The Flame... still burning!
Prayas Camp 2018, held from June 20 to 22 at the Park Street campus, was a three-day educational initiative wherein 25 girls and 25 boys of classes 10, 11, and 12, from Baikuntapur village in the Sunderbans participated. They were taught and mentored by about 30 college students as a part of a 12-year endeavour to encourage higher education among the rural students.
The Principal, Rev Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, in his inaugural address, welcomed the campers and expressed his happiness for their presence. "Please feel free here, this is your college, enjoy, learn and go back satisfied, but some of you must come back to study here," said the Principal.
The Valedictory programme was graced by Rev. Dr. Felix Raj, SJ, Vice Chancellor of St. Xavier's University and the person responsible for the birth of Prayas. In his address Father said, "The primary purpose of Project Prayas was to bridge the gap between the urban and the rural and we have been very successful. I am happy that the flame is still burning." Father invited them to be part of the University as well.
Father Principal appreciated the social work & NSS
department for all the hard work they put in to make this
camp successful. The Alumni touch helped in mobilizing
resources thereby making the camp comfortable.
