The Xavier’s Commerce Society (XCS) is the representative society of the Department of Commerce of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata. Since its establishment in 2006, the society has aimed to enhance undergraduate students’ proficiency in business, commerce and management while upholding its motto of ‘Dreams. Development. Destiny.’

The President of the society is Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal. In the capacity of Advisors, the society has Rev. Dr. Joseph Kulandai, SJ, Vice-Principal (B.Com. Morning), Rev. Fr. Peter Arockiam, SJ, Vice-Principal (B.Com-Evening), Dr. Amitava Roy, Dean (B.Com. Morning) and Dr. Soheli Ghose, Dean (B.Com- Evening). The society is guided by Professor-in-Charge, Dr. Shaunak Roy and mentored by Dr. Sumona Ghosh. The Joint Secretaries for this academic year are Pratham Mittal and Vasisth K Bafna. The society actively looks forward to engaging and apprising students of its undertakings through its social media handles, including its Facebook page, which has over 28,000 followers; Instagram page, which has over 3,500 followers; LinkedIn page, which has over 3,500 followers and various other platforms as well.

After being dormant for more than a year due to the pandemic, the Society is once again in action with the support and blessings of our Father Principal, Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio SJ. The Society is headed by the Professors in-charge, Dr. Shibaji Banerjee, Dr. Suparna Roychowdhury, and Secretary Shalini Kundu. The Society comprises students across various departments working in unison for its success.

XCS has organized several events in 2022; many are yet to be conducted.


Youthink is the peer-reviewed annual journal of the Department of Commerce bearing ISSN 2347-6222. The internationally recognized journal encompasses an array of the major geopolitical and corporate affairs. The 16th edition of Youthink, themed ‘Reckoning’ was launched in January 2022. The launch also witnessed an enriching keynote speaker session featuring Mr. Debashis Chatterjee, the Director of IIM Kozhikode, and an eminent author. The journal featured the interviews of various esteemed luminaries and dignitaries like Mr. Boman Irani, Mr. Abhinav Bindra, Ms. Usha Uthup, Mr. Manish Malhotra, Mr. Karan Thapar, and multiple others.


Case Construe is a case study competition organized from March 26- April 2022, on versatile domains such as marketing, finance, HR, entrepreneurship, PR, etc. Portfolio Management and Online Treasure Hunt happened to be highly riveting events. These rounds augmented participants’ crisis management skills, inventiveness, time management, strategic thinking, and reasoning. This event, a forerunner to Insignia, attracted notable institutions from around the country and overseas.


Insignia is Xavier's Commerce Society's premier event, attracting national and international colleges across the country and beyond. As the most significant undergraduate business festival in East India, the two-day event helps participants improve their skills and reach milestones in a variety of business and management events. The Insignia Auditions were one of the first on-ground events in two years since the pandemic. It was created to determine the SXC contingent for Insignia. The enormous reaction and excellent round-running made it a great success

On April 25, 2022, the College hosted the Insignia 2022 Theme Launch. Insignia 2022 had a 'Roman Empire' theme. "Rise of Imperium" inspired students to sharpen their wits and channel their talents toward achieving greatness. The thrilling and entertaining event aroused student passion. The main event was organized on April 30 and May 1, 2022. Participants from Indian Institute of Management, Indore, Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi, Hansraj College, Delhi, Lady Shri Ram College, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, New Delhi, Loyola College of Commerce, Chennai, Christ University, Bengaluru , and St. Xavier's College(Autonomous), Kolkata competed fiercely. Jaideep Prabhu, author of Jugaad Innovation and professor at Cambridge Judge Business School, Rashmi Chadha, founder of Wovoyage, and Amit Khatri, co-founder of Noise led interactive speaker sessions, offered valued business insights to the participants. The alumni of prominent IIMs, professors, and other recognised dignitaries led webinars on career possibilities, skill sets, and qualities for the business world and postgraduate education programmes.


Corporate Prodigy is an event aimed to instil business knowledge to high-school students. Corporate Prodigy was held August 13-14, 2022. The 2022 theme was ‘Transform, Transcend, Transpire.’ Ten students from La Martiniere for Boys, Kolkata, and St. Xavier's Collegiate School, Kolkata, participated in stimulating rounds. They included Marketing, PR, Finance, HR, Entrepreneurship, etc., enabling them to show resolve, judgement, and zeal as they advanced through myriad phases. Mr. Aditya Narain, Deputy Director of the International Monetary Fund, deliberated on ‘major risks to global financial stability.’ Corporate Prodigy was a success like its predecessors.


Inception, a management simulation event for first-year students at the College, was organized from September 14-16, 2022. This edition of Inception, the first event for freshers in College, witnessed a terrific response in terms of passion, competitiveness, and execution. Inception 2022’s theme was gang wars, capturing the struggle for survival and the triumphant. The tag line ‘Rise of the Invincible’ encouraged participants to display courage and aptitude amid fierce competition. Inception consisted of rigorous rounds that taught students fundamental business skills. Group conversations, panels, case studies, interviews, and board games test participants’ abilities to envision beyond the horizon, overcome barriers, and emerge unprecedented. Biju Paul Abraham, Professor of Public Policy at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, reflected on the dynamism of modern management and its impact on business.


The society organizes various speaker sessions and workshops on significant technical and analytical skills like MS Excel, fundamentals of stock markets, and so on, essential in the business realm throughout the academic year, intending to instill within students the significance of financial management and holistic industrial capabilities,


XCS shall host Innovision 2022, a week long series of seminars led by notable persons and institutions to help students enhance their abilities and develop personally and professionally. It shall also conduct Inductions, which include personal interviews and other rounds aimed to enrich corporate experience. It shall highlight the essential aptitude, traits, and qualities one must possess to continue and improve society's legacy.
