SXCCAA Launches Deccan Chapter in Hyderabad

The St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA) proudly marked a significant milestone with the formal launch of its Deccan Chapter in Hyderabad, in a vibrant gathering today that brought together more than 100 enthusiastic alumni and well-wishers from both Hyderabad and Kolkata.
The occasion was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata and President of SXCCAA, who delivered an inspiring Welcome Address. In his remarks, Father President emphasized the importance of nurturing the core Xaverian values of philanthropy, fellowship, and faith, urging all members of the newly formed Deccan Chapter to remain closely connected with their alma mater through meaningful engagement and service.
The evening was further enriched by the gracious presence of Dr. Prashant Garg, Executive Chair of Dr. L. V. Prasad Eye Institute, who joined as the Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Garg highlighted the transformative role of educational institutions and their alumni in shaping a compassionate, inclusive, and socially responsible society. He applauded SXCCAA for its commitment to community-building and outreach.
The successful launch of the Deccan Chapter reflects SXCCAA’s ongoing efforts to expand its national and international footprint, strengthen alumni bonds, and promote collaborative initiatives rooted in the Jesuit ideals of excellence, service, and leadership.

Today a program was held at the New state of the art Auditorium of Raghabpur Campus, to mark the Certification Ceremony of the Chowman Hospitality Management Course, which is an unique effort resulting from a Collaboration between St. Xavier's College and Chowman. The National Financial Literacy Quiz (NFLQ) 2025 organised by NISM took place on 22nd June for the post-graduate colleges of the eastern region at the Bhawanipur Education Society College.
A total of 60 colleges participated in the Quiz.
At the end of Round 1, 24 colleges qualified for the second round in which St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata secured the first place.
The Stage Round was divided into four set consisting of 6 colleges in each set. The set in which St. Xavier's College competed, it secured the first place.
The students Romit Chattopadhyay (Year 1) and Sharbayash Sarkar (Year 1) of M.Com were representing the college and they had performed exceptionally good throught the different rounds.
At the end of the eastern regional rounds, 10 colleges qualified for the National Rounds in which St. Xavier's College secured the 2nd Rank and won a cash price of ₹30,000.
The National Rounds will take place in NISM Campus, Mumbai, sometime in November, 2025.

Prayogik Bangla’, the first professional course offered by the Postgraduate & Research Department of Bengali at Raghabpur campus, was inaugurated today(26/5). Designed to bridge academia with industry, the course focuses on Book Publishing and Copy Editing and is offered in collaboration with Sangbad Pratidin, a leading Bengali media house, and Tritiyo Parisar, a prominent Bengali publishing house.
Dr. Swati Guha, Director of the Institute for Language Studies & Research (ILSR) — who played a key role in securing Classical Language status for Bengali — graced the occasion. St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Kolkata, in collaboration with the St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA), hosted a solemn Interfaith Memorial Service on 29 April 2025 in memory of His Holiness Pope Francis. The event served as a profound tribute to the Pope’s legacy of humility, compassion, and his tireless commitment to peace and interfaith dialogue in the heart of the City of Joy.
The service commenced with a prayer by Rev. Fr. Jeyaraj Veluswamy, Rector of the College. This was followed by moving tributes from Rev. Fr. James Arjen Tete, SJ, Swami Suparnanandaji, Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Mr. Jagmohan Singh Gill, and Dr. Snehasis Sur, each reflecting on Pope Francis’s life, teachings, and global impact.
The program was well attended by Fathers, Brothers, and Sisters of various congregations, along with alumni members, faculty, support staff, students, and distinguished guests. Their presence added solemnity and a sense of unity to the occasion.
The entire service was beautifully curated with meaningful musical pieces, including a special performance by the Calcutta Youth Choir, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere and deepening the sense of reflection and reverence throughout the gathering.
The program was both meaningful and spiritually enriching—an inspiring homage to a spiritual leader who transcended boundaries through love, dialogue, and service.

विविधा 2025: "सपने जहाँ दस्तक दे" | सेंट जेवियर्स कॉलेज, कोलकाता
सेंटजेवियर्स कॉलेज (स्वायत्त), कोलकाता की हिंदी साहित्यपरिषद का वार्षिक प्रमुखआयोजन विविधा, 25 और 26 फरवरी 2025 को आयोजित कियाजाएगा। इस वर्ष, यहएक अंतर-कॉलेज महोत्सवके रूप में नईऊंचाइयों को छूने जारहा है, जहाँ 15 सेअधिक प्रतिष्ठित कॉलेजों के प्रतिभागी हिंदीभाषा और इसकी समृद्धसांस्कृतिक विरासत का उत्सव मनानेके लिए एकत्रित होंगे। 25 फरवरी 2025 को सेंट जेवियर्सकॉलेज, कोलकाता में उद्घाटन समारोहके साथ साहित्य, कलाऔर मनोरंजन से भरी रोमांचकयात्रा की शुरुआत कीजाएगी।
विविधा'25 में 7 भव्य प्रतियोगिताएँ शामिलहैं, जो सभी केलिए एक अनोखा अनुभवलेकर आएंगी। "सफ़रनामा", बॉलीवुड क्विज़ प्रतियोगिता, फिल्म प्रेमियों को उनके सिनेमाज्ञान की परीक्षा मेंशामिल करेगी। "कला", रचनात्मक लेखन और डूडलिंगप्रतियोगिता, प्रतिभागियों को अपनी कलात्मकअभिव्यक्ति का मंच प्रदानकरेगी। "तर्क-वितर्क", एकन्यूज़रूम वाद-विवाद प्रतियोगिता, जहां प्रतिभागी अपनी तर्कशक्ति औरआलोचनात्मक सोच का प्रदर्शनकरेंगे। "अफ़साने", एक ओपन माइकइवेंट, जिसमें कहानीकार, कवि और कलाकारअपनी भावनाएँ और विचार साझाकर सकेंगे। इसके अतिरिक्त, दोऑनलाइन प्रतियोगिताएँ भी होंगी—"चित्रकथा", एक फ़ोटोग्राफ़ी प्रतियोगिता, जो प्रतिभागियों को अपने कैमरेके जरिए कहानियाँ कहनेका अवसर देगी, और "मसख़रा", एक मीम-निर्माणप्रतियोगिता, जो हास्य औररचनात्मकता का संगम होगी।इस वर्ष का प्रमुखआकर्षण "तरंग", पहली बार आयोजितहोने वाली एक बॉलीवुडग्रुप डांस प्रतियोगिता होगी, जो ऊर्जावान प्रस्तुतियों और उत्साही भागीदारीका गवाह बनेगी।

The University of Calcutta emerged champions among 26 other Universities in the AIU East Zone Inter University Chess Championship (MEN) 2024-2025 in Jharkhand, Ranchi from 03/02/2025 to 08/02/2025.
Soham Bhattacharyya of CMSA Department, 2nd year, scored 6.5/7 and was given the trophy for the best player on Board No 3 scoring the highest points in the whole event. With this University of Calcutta gets selected for All India National Inter University Chess Championship tentatively scheduled in the 1st week of April 2025
