Programme Specific Outcomes

The B.A. course in sociology comprises 14 core papers (CC), 4 discipline specific electives (DSE) and 2 skill enchantment courses (SEC). The course provides a comprehensive introduction to the discipline of Sociology.

  • Students will learn about the classical and contemporary sociological thinkers and the different schools of sociological thought.
  • Students will learn to understand social institutions and structures; social processes and relationships from a critical sociological perspective.
  • Students will learn about the methods of sociological research and undertake dissertation writing with the supervision of faculty members.
  • Students will learn to engage critically with sociological literature and undertake academic writing in future.
  • The course will equip students to pursue higher education in the discipline. It will enable them to perform well in competitive exams including the civil services. The course prepares students with employable skills particularly in the education sector, in media and communications and in the development sector.
