DEPARTMENTAL ACHIEVEMENTS
Many students from the department are presently working in various national and international news organizations like HT Media, NDTV, Network 18, Times Now, Reuters, The Gisborne Herald, The Statesman and many more. A lot of students secure admissions to prestigious postgraduate institutes in India and abroad such as IIMC, London School of Economics, JNU, Delhi University, BHU, Calcutta University, Jadavpur University and many others.
The syllabus of the Department of Journalism has been designed to provide the students of this undergraduate program with a strong foundation in Journalism and related studies which includes discussions on ethics, laws, etc. The course equips them for further study and research in the subject.
The MCV studio is used to impart training on TV and digital production. Students are introduced to Teleprompters, Talk Backs, Switchers and also taught the fundamentals of handling these equipment.
As part of the Continuous Assessment, students get the opportunity of producing small news features for print, electronic and digital media. In the process, they write script, shoot, edit as well as give PTC. They are also trained to handle sensitive topics, abiding by all legal and ethical norms.
The faculty of the department are also involved with the media. Prof Ipsita Barat has worked with production houses, Prof Utsav Chatterjee contributes to newspapers and magazines and also to some government organizations in various capacities, Prof Sayantan Ghost is a political analyst who regularly takes part in various TV discussions.
The department organizes seminars and workshops with industry professionals as well as resource persons from various institutes and organizations.
