• The student will have a wide knowledge of British and New Literatures in English including their most contemporary aspects.
• The student will have a thorough grounding in literary and critical theory and the basic principles of research methodology.
• The student will have developed a multi-disciplinary approach to reading literary texts.
• The student will be sensitized to the possibilities of alternate readings of texts including perspectives offered by gender, postcolonial and critical race theory.
• The student will have acquired the critical and analytical skills to pursue independent research.
