The M.A. in Education is an intensive two-year post-graduate programme being offered by the Department of Education, St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata from the academic session 2021-22 at the Park Street campus of the institution. The programme has been envisaged to provide an engaged and impactful learning experience to selected candidates through a substantive and comprehensive curriculum. The unique curriculum seeks to provide a global perspective to the four-semester course, besides instilling in the candidates the fundamental values of inclusivity and social justice in the field of Education. The specially designed post-graduate syllabus focuses on providing rigorous training that includes modern trends in research methodology, leading to the completion of the mandatory requirement of executing a dissertation in the relevant chosen field of specialization. The programme, through its unique curriculum and specific formulated courses seeks to provide a platform that will combine both asynchronous and synchronous learning experiences. This exclusive course is geared around achieving educational outcomes that will influence Cognitive, Affective, and Social dimensions of learning. The innovative course outline, with its strong research orientation and firm theoretical and practical foundations, uses cutting-edge technologies and field-based opportunities to prepare leaders of tomorrow with an insatiable zest for critical thinking and an avid urge for social reconstruction.

Objectives

The course specific objectives of the programme have been outlined in the curriculum and they systematicallyÅ› diverge from the following programme objectives:

  • To produce social-entrepreneurs in education with a zeal for social re-construction and nation-building.
  • To form innovative, inventive, and original thinkers imbued with a desire to arrive at ground-breaking solutions to social problems.
  • To equip educational leaders with theoretical frameworks and practical tools for designing, implementing, and evaluating educational policies, practices, settings, context, and methods at different levels: national, state, institutional and specific program/project.
  • To provide learners with opportunities through engagement in the relevant field by linking theory and practice about child, adolescent, and adult development.
  • To explore and examine Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor domains of learning through the lens of Social Justice.

Course Outcomes

Upon secondaryful completion of the M.A. in Education from St Xavier's (Autonomous) College, Kolkata, the learners will be equipped with requisite competence that will enable them to:

  • Think and evaluate critically with logic, clarity, and precision inorder to explore solutions to urgent educational and social problems.
  • Envision and create just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive educational solutions based upon a grounded understanding, in-depth knowledge and deep appreciation of theory, practice, policy, planning, research, and development in Education.
  • Explore and conduct research based on firm theoretical and practical foundations, using cutting-edge technologies and field-based opportunities.
  • Engage, communicate, and collaborate with learning communities and school systems to uphold the central value of equity in education in the process of social reconstruction and the development of the educational sector.
