ICSSR-ERC sponsored two-day international seminar 2025 

On “THE EMERGING ISSUES OF G20: A YOUTH PERSPECTIVE.

On 6th March 2025, the Postgraduate Department of Education, St Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata organised the ICSSR-ERC sponsored International Seminar entitled “The Emerging Issues of G20: A Youth Perspective. Prof. Krishnajyoti Goswami from Lincoln University College, Malaysia, delivered the keynote address on "Global Leadership for Peace." Following the keynote address, the panel discussion focused on "Climate Change, Economic Inequality, and Access to Health Care for Future Generations." Prof. Prabhat Kumar Datta, speaking on "Political Empowerment of Women Through Quota: Rhetoric and Reality," where the role of quotas in promoting women's political participation was discussed. The day concluded with the paper presentations by the participants.

 

 On 7th March, the morning session of the ICSSR-ERC sponsored International Seminar was dedicated to paper presentations both in online and offline mode. In the afternoon session, Dr. Anuttama Banerjee spoke on "Digital Well-Being in the Age of Hyperconnectivity: Psychological Strategies in a G20-Connected World,". The valedictory session which followed a tea break was addressed by Rev. Dr. J. Felix Raj, SJ, Vice Chancellor of St. Xavier's University, Kolkata summarizing the key discussions of the seminar and emphasizing the role of youth in shaping the future of the G20. He also discussed the importance of AI (Artificial Intelligence), HI (Human Intelligence) and DI (Divine Intelligence).

28th February and 1st March 2025Xenith- Chapter 2, Yards of TImeXenith-Yards of Time, the annual intercollegiate fest held from 28th February to 1st March 2025. This year's Xenith was organized on a grander scale, with an expanded number of 16 participating colleges, a wider range of cultural performances, and intensified competitions in music, dance, debate, and creative arts. The two-day event combined cultural performances, competitive activities, and academic presentations, fostering unity and collaboration among participants from various institutions.
30th November to 2nd December 2024Research Survey and awareness program in Eklavya School and Tribal villages of Bankura, West BengalThe socio-economic survey and awareness program was conducted by 70 students of the B.Ed. Semester III and M.A. Ed. Semester III which explored environmental practices, education, and livelihoods within the villages and also awareness program in Eklavya Model Residential School emphasizing education’s transformative potential.
7th September to 21st September 2024Swachhata Pakhwada 2024The B.Ed students of Mangalam project conducted activities including poster-making, slogan writing, personal hygiene awareness, and sapling plantation in collaboration with students and teachers of  Raghudevbati Sadharaner Vidyalaya. Further the B.Ed. students led school programs featuring mime acts, campus cleaning, poster-making, and slogan-writing, promoting water conservation and environmental cleanliness were initiated during the campaign.
24th July to 30th September 2024Circle of JoyThe clothes drive saw enthusiastic participation from both teachers and students, with contributions of gently used clothes and accessories coming from across the college community; promoting community service, sustainability, reinforcing values of empathy, social responsibility, and environmental consciousness.
24th September 2024Food Fest: Agomonir SwadThe students were divided into groups of 5 regional zones of India highlighting India's rich food heritage throughwell-loved street food and crowd-favourite pleasures from all over the country, prepared by the students themselves.
5th September 2024Teachers’ Day CelebrationThe Postgraduate Department of Education at St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata celebrated Teachers’ Day to honour the contributions of teachers and the legacy of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
23rdAugust & 27th August 2024Foundation CourseThe students of B.Ed Semester 1 were divided into six groups, each representing a religion, to provide an opportunity to acquire knowledge about different religions and delve deep into the philosophy, guidance, and teachings of each.
19th -20th August 2024Induction Programme (MA)Different Sessions with different speakers were organized to create a positive and supportive experience for new students, enabling them to contribute effectively to the organization's success while feeling valued and integrated into the institute’s culture.
17th August, 2024Orientation Programme (MA)The students of M.A. Education, Semester I were provided insights into class schedules, subject codes, and assessment procedures, emphasizing the importance of utilizing the college library, earning credit points through active participation, and engaging in research activities, including fieldwork for dissertations.
13th-14 August 2024Micro Block TeachingThe students of B.Ed, Semester-III (2023-2025) were divided into heterogeneous blocks of 25 students each. These blocks of students were assessed, evaluated and guided individually on the basis of their Micro teaching skills.
13th August 2024Invited LectureResource person, Dr. Samrat Roy, Ph. D Coordinator and Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, St. Xavier’s College delivered a lecture on ‘Research Proposal’
9th August 2024Invited Lecture -“Fostering Emotional Intelligence among Adolescents: Strategies for Teachers.”The department organised an invited lecture on “Fostering Emotional Intelligence among Adolescents: Strategies for Teachers.” The resource person was an eminent psychologist, Dr. Anuttama Banerjee.
27th & 30th July 2024Club Activity ProgrammesThe different clubs of the department showcased their individual programs on a specific topic of relevance.
24th – July 2024Circle of JoyThe drive is an initiative of the department for clothes collection and donation to the needy. The drive started on 24th July and concluded on 30th September 2024
24th July 2024Father Principal’s BirthdayThe department celebrated the birthday of Respected Father Principal Dr. Dominic Savio SJ. In the Seminar Hall of the department.

Resource persons like Dr. Brinda Bazeley Kharbiryambai, Professor, Department of Education, North East Hill University, Prof. Dr Ramakanta Mohalik, Professor and Head, Departmentof Education, Regional Institute of Education (NCERT), Dr. Prabhat Kumar Dutta, Adjunct Professor, Xavier Law School, St. Xavier’s University, Mr. Souvik Dutta, Lead Data Scientist RPSG Group & Dr. Saibal Kar, RBI Chair Professor of Economics Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta graced the occasion with their lectures.

The initiative, led by DAY-NRLM's (Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Rural Livelihoods Mission) self-help groups, aimed to elevate the rights of women and gender-diverse individuals.

3rd-4th October 2023Foundation Course (B.Ed)Foundation Course highlighting the religious diversity of India the for the 1st Year students of B.Ed. The students were divided into six groups each discussing a religion, including Christianity, Islam, Jainism, Sikhism, Hinduism and Buddhism.
30th September 2023Swachhta DriveThe Education department’s passionate commitment to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan 3.0, symbolized by Swachchta and the Panch Pran pledges on 30th September, marked a transformative beginning. A significant moment transpired on 12th October, as Father Principal Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio SJ, Vice Principal Dr. Swati Sarkar, faculty, and students actively swept the campus grounds, showcasing unwavering dedication.
23rd September 2023SEMINAR on Universal Human ValuesThe honourable resource person for the lecture on the topic “Universal Human Values” was Swami Divyagunananda, (Monastic Honorary) of Ramkrishna Mission Sikshanamandira. The event was attended by the professors and students of B.Ed. and M.A. The event helped everyone present in inculcating the different ideas and the universal human values discussed in the seminar.
20-30th September 2023Circle of Joy The drive is an initiative of the department for clothes collection and donation. It took place in two shifts daily over a period of 10 days in the Seminar Hall of the Education department.

26th August 2023Meri Mitti Mera Desh"Meri mati mera desh," a campaign for the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, has been conducted by the post graduate department of Education of St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata. Its vision is to support raising awareness among everyone associated with TEIs. There were different activities undertaken in order to commemorate the essence pertinent to the campaign.
18th August 2023Library Orientation ProgrammeDr. Chinmay Mukhopadhyay, the librarian of our college, along with two library assistants conducted a short lecture cum demonstration on the library resources, usage, rules and regulations and other related aspects of the library. This was followed by an interactive session.
15th August 2023Har Ghar TirangaThe National Flag of India was
hoisted in the college premises following the ‘Flag Code of India 2002’ and Selfies with the
National Flag of India were taken to mark this momentous occasion as per the NCTE
instructions.

22nd July 2023Workshop on ‘Best out of Waste’The workshop was organized to commemorate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, an initiative introduced by the Government of India to celebrate the completion of 75 years of Indian Independence. The workshop aimed to educate the trainee-teachers on the importance of reducing their carbon footprint by giving a new life to things considered useless.
