Miraya, the social outreach initiative of the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and Incubation Centre (EDCIC), St. Xavier’s College, was successfully held at Loreto Day School, Sealdah on 2nd November 2025 with the participation of over 70 children from the Rainbow Homes.
The campus was filled with excitement as children enjoyed a variety of fun game stalls such as Stack the Cups, Dice Car Racing, Find the Treat, along with energetic activities like Basketball, Dodgeball and Musical Chairs.
The participants were provided with lunch and refreshments, and winners received small prizes including candies, snacks and stationery items.
The children had a wonderful time filled with joy and laughter, and our team felt equally grateful and inspired to be part of such a meaningful day. Miraya once again fulfilled its purpose of creating smiles, memories and a spirit of togetherness.

Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, met Prof. Asutosh Ghosh, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, in his chamber at the University on 3rd November 2025. Rev. Dr. Savio congratulated Prof. Ghosh on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor and conveyed his best wishes for a successful tenure.
The Annual General Meeting of the Students' Council of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata was held on 1st November 2025 in the presence of Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio SJ, Principal and President of St. Xavier’s College Students’ Council along with the Vice-Principals, Member Secretary Academic Council, IQAC Coordinator, Deputy President of Students’ Council and Vice-Deputy Presidents of Students’ Council.
The Annual General Meeting was attended by 89 elected class representatives and 10 Society Secretaries.

Flood Relief Initiative by SXCCAA North Bengal Chapter
On 10th October 2025, the North Bengal Chapter of St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA) organised a relief drive for families displaced by the recent floods in North Bengal.
Essential relief materials — including food items, medicines, clothing, umbrellas, blankets, tarpaulins and hygiene kits — were distributed at the Dudhey relief camp, with additional supplies reaching families from a remote village near Mirik, where connectivity remains disrupted. The Chapter also plans to extend relief efforts to the Sukiapokri belt in the coming days.
This humanitarian outreach reflects the true Xaverian spirit of compassion and service, as our alumni stand in solidarity with those affected, bringing hope and help where it’s needed most.


Ms. Sutirna Chakraborty, Actuarial Associate from Assurant Warranty Solutions, India Pvt. Ltd. delivered an invited talk on "How Statistics Shapes the Insurance Industry - An Introduction to Actuarial Science" on 20th September, 2025, which provideda clear understanding of the usage of statistics and data in insurance through the introduction of actuarial models and highlighted potential career paths in the field.
Mr. Anish Ganguli, Senior Data Scientist at Microsoft delivered a talk titled "Solving Real-World Problems with AI: Two Practical Use Cases" navigating the process of converting business questions into technical models suitable for analysis on 12th August, 2025 at the talk session organized by the Department of Statistics and the Postgraduate Department of Data Science.
Spread the Joy – A Philanthropic Celebration
The St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA) organized a heartwarming outreach programme, “Spread the Joy”, on Wednesday, 24th September 2025, at Bodhana, a home for specially abled children in Newtown, Kolkata.
The event was graced by Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, and President of SXCCAA, who joined as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by the Honorary Secretary and members of the Association.
To celebrate the festive spirit of Durga Puja, new clothes, gifts, and accessories were distributed among the children. A special festive lunch was also arranged, complemented by lively performances including a magic show and a talking doll act, which brought smiles and laughter to the children. Fr. Dominic Savio further encouraged them by visiting the handicrafts section, appreciating their talent and resilience.
Speaking on the occasion, Father Savio remarked: “The real meaning of a festival is to bring smiles to others and share joy, especially with those with special needs.”
The initiative beautifully embodied the Xaverian spirit of compassion, inclusiveness, and service. By reaching out to more than a hundred specially abled children, the programme reaffirmed SXCCAA’s enduring commitment to philanthropy and social responsibility.
The celebration concluded with heartfelt interactions, leaving behind memories of joy and a renewed resolve to continue spreading happiness across communities.
The Postgraduate department of Education and IQAC organised a workshop on Jeevan Kaushal- CPR Mass Awareness Programme in collaboration with Indian Academy of Pediatrics on 26/7/25.
The Inaugural Programme for the new cohort of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) students at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, was held on 14th July 2025 at 11 a.m. in the Fr. Depelchin auditorium. The event was a graceful blend of solemnity and celebration, marking the commencement of a new academic journey.
The Postgraduate Department of Education celebrated Teachers’ Day on 4th September 2025 with great enthusiasm. The occasion was graced by Fr. Rector, Rev. Jeyraj Veluswamy SJ, Fr. Principal, Dr. Dominic Savio SJ and the Vice-Principal, Dr. Swati Sarkar, who addressed the students and faculty with inspiring words.
The cultural programme began with a solo dance performance, followed by a group dance recital on the theme “Elements of Nature”, which was warmly appreciated by the audience. The event created a joyful and reverent atmosphere, reflecting gratitude towards teachers and the spirit of learning.
Circle of Joy – Annual Clothes Donation Drive
The Xaverian Education Society (XES) of the Postgraduate Department of Education successfully organized its Annual Clothes Donation Drive – Circle of Joy 2025, with the generous support of students, faculty, and staff.
This year, the collected clothes were donated to two partner NGOs, Bondhu Ek Asha, Jadavpur, and Goonj Kolkata, Topsia, who will distribute them among people in need. The initiative not only helped extend warmth and care but also strengthened the department’s commitment to social responsibility and community outreach.
The Department sincerely thanks all contributors for their active participation in making the Circle of Joy a meaningful and impactful event.
The students of the Postgraduate Department of Education organised a seminar on single-use plastic, addressing its physical, environmental, and economic consequences highlighting sustainable alternatives such as reusable and biodegradable materials at Raghudevbati Sadharaner Vidyalaya (H.S.) on 13/9/25.
Swachhata Pakhwada 2025
The Postgraduate Department of Education observed Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 from 1st to 15th September through an Awareness Programme followed by a plantation drive at Raghudevbati Sadharaner Vidyalaya (H.S.). The activities reflected the spirit of Swachhata through action, advocacy, and environmental commitment.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal, St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata, presided over the inaugural ceremeny of a seminar on Bengali Literature, Theatre and Cinema: Relationship, held at the college on 25 August 2025. It was organised by the Bengali Dept and the IQAC Cell of the College in collaboration with Sahitya Academy, Govt. of India. Education Minister of West Bengal and eminent writer, dramatist, actor and film director, Bratya Basu, was present on the occasion as the Chief Guest. Rector Rev. Fr. Jeyaraj Veluswamy, SJ, was also present.
The Postgraduate and Research Department of Bengali organized a seminar on 'Father Robert Antoine, SJ: Byakti O Srishti' on September 6, 2025, at the Raghabpur Campus, to honour the Jesuit priest and Comparative Literature professor at Jadavpur University. Father Antoine (1914-1981) was a renowned scholar, translator, composer, teacher, and critic of classical literature. The seminar featured lectures by esteemed speakers, including some of Father Antoine's students and colleagues.
Reverend Father Jayaraj Veluswamy, SJ, delivered the welcome address, while Reverend Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, gave the inaugural address. Other notable speakers included Prof. Amiya Deb, Prof. Pabitra Sarkar, Prof. Nrisingha Prasad Bhaduri, Prof. Subha Chakraborty Dasgupta, Shri Sankarlal Bhattacharya, Dr. Snehasis Sur, Prof. Suranjan Midday, Sri Anjan Sen, Sri Chittaranjan Roy, Sri Swapan Mukhopadhyay and Sri Biswajyoti Dasgupta. Reverend Father Timir Singha's speech was read out in the seminar, as he was unable to attend.
Around 170 professors, teachers, scholars, and students participated in the seminar, which was blessed by Reverend Father Johnson Padiyara, SJ, Vice Principal of the Raghabpur campus. A rare book exhibition featuring Father Antoine's works was also held, inaugurated by Father Rector and Father Principal of the college.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Debashis Bhattacharyya, Departmental Coordinator.
Felicitation of NAAC Grade A, A+ and A++ colleges by the Higher Education Department of WB. Program was attended by the Education Minister.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the University Grants Commission has launched the "Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Program" as a flagship initiative under the national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

SXCCAA Launches Deccan Chapter in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, 2nd August 2025:
The St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA) proudly marked a significant milestone with the formal launch of its Deccan Chapter in Hyderabad, in a vibrant gathering today that brought together more than 100 enthusiastic alumni and well-wishers from both Hyderabad and Kolkata.
The occasion was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata and President of SXCCAA, who delivered an inspiring Welcome Address. In his remarks, Father President emphasized the importance of nurturing the core Xaverian values of philanthropy, fellowship, and faith, urging all members of the newly formed Deccan Chapter to remain closely connected with their alma mater through meaningful engagement and service.
The evening was further enriched by the gracious presence of Dr. Prashant Garg, Executive Chair of Dr. L. V. Prasad Eye Institute, who joined as the Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Garg highlighted the transformative role of educational institutions and their alumni in shaping a compassionate, inclusive, and socially responsible society. He applauded SXCCAA for its commitment to community-building and outreach.
